This year the $150, 000 Group 3 Hyperion Stakes will run at the esteemed Ascot racecourse in Perth on Saturday March 20.
The thrilling 1400m sprint should attract a field of the state’s better sprinters and may even draw a few interstate contenders as well looking for a good weight-for-age event.
Often considered good indicators for the Hyperion Stakes are the AJ Scahill Stakes and the Lee Steere Stakes
Often considered good indicators for the Hyperion Stakes are some of WA’s earlier carnival events held late last year including the Group 3 AJ Scahill Stakes that was run on December 12 and the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes conducted on November 7.
The 2009 Lee Steere Stakes was won by seven-year-old Idyllic Prince ahead of Tarzi and Spirited One, and there is a high chance one or all of these quality horses will back up with a run in the 2010 Hyperion Stakes.
The Neville Parnham-trained Tarzi also placed second to Proart in the AJ Scahill Stakes. If Tarzi does contest the 2010 Hyperion Stakes the Desert Prince gelding will put in everything he’s got to claim the Group win following his succession of frustrating minor placings.
The 2010 Hyperion Stakes’ nominations may also see a number of horses that previously contested the prestigious Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 5 and are looking for the drop back in class and distance that the Hyperion Stakes provides.
